Waverley So Cliquot (2014)// A Black Oldenburg Young Mare.
About
Waverley So Cliquot (Clio) is a statuesque young mare by Sezuan out of one of our Brilliant ring Oldenburg mares by San Amour x Rubin Royal x Burgraf. She has been under saddle since December 2017 and on August 1st 2018 at Aintree, UK, now four years old, won both the first grown up British Dressage classes she had ever entered, in a class of older horses. She scored 74.38% in the Preliminary and 75.17% in the Novice, winning both classes, across all sections in some style. The judge commented on her beautiful paces and she received several nines - extraordinary for a four year old. We have high hopes for this talented mare.
Clio is Elite St.Pr.St. Samoa's (aka Sensation) first foal. She is by triple world champion Sezuan and her pedigree features the Olympic star Don Schufro, at least four established Grand Prix stallions, plus two who are nearly there and the most highly evaluated stallion on record. We called her So Cliquot (continuing our Champagne theme this year) to celebrate the birth of this black baby with four white feet, a white star and a tiny white snip on her muzzle (in fact her markings are a replica of those of her illustrious father!). She has a really good swinging walk and a fabulous canter with excellent front leg lift and hind leg split. She has just begun her ridden work and will soon be out completing at Novice level.
So Cliquot is by triple Young Horse World Champion phenomenon Sezuan. Sezuan is by Zack out of a Don Schufro mother - a product of Blue Hors breeding. Zack is by Rousseau out of a Jazz mare and Don Schufro is the product of another D-line/F-line cross but this time using the original - Donnerhall himself. Sezuan caused a sensation when he won the 35 day Danish Warmblood stallion performance testing in the autumn of 2012 as a three year old, with a record breaking result of 987.5 points out of a 1,000. He scored ten 10s (!) and three 9.5s during the testing, and on the final day the trainer, judges and test riders agreed that this stallion has world class gaits and potential.
Samoa is a Brilliant Ring State Premium Oldenburg mare. She has wonderful elastic paces with great suspension in the trot and the canter, and a swinging light footed walk. So Cliquot is her first foal. Sensation is by the fabulous San Amour, one of my favourite stallions. In my view he has it all: great beauty; real charisma in the arena and spectacular movement even as he performs the advanced level exercises. San Amour, finished his 70-day performance test with a superior dressage index of 137.74 points and was twice awarded a 9.5 for his excellent rideability.
