Monik is a beautifully bred jet black Oldenburg mare. Her sire is Champion Grand Prix stallion De Niro, and her dam is by the German Olympic 3-day event sire Volturno. She has three eye-catching paces: a huge walk, a powerful yet floating trot; and an expressive canter.

She is an angel to handle and produces well-adjusted foals with a super outlook on life. Her foals have beautiful type with fine intelligent heads and a real ‘look at me’ quality. De Niro was Reserve Champion at the 1996 Performance Test in Adelheidsdorf, with an overall score of 144.93. He scored 9s in all three gaits and was awarded the highest score for 'rideability' (9.67). He was also one of the best jumping stallions at the Verden stallion market in 1995.

His foals are consistently elegant, modern type; and show excellent conformation as well as outstanding movement. His first foal crop got an overall note of 9 by the Oldenburg commission and based on the exceptional quality of his foals, he received the "Hauptpraemiensieger" (Main Premium Champion) award in 1997. In 2001 he was Champion dressage horse at the German Championship for Professional Riders; and by the time he was 7 years old De Niro was already winning at Grand Prix level and in 2008 he was Hanoverian stallion of the year.

De Niro has produced more than 60 approved sons and continues to give his foals outstanding movement, extremely high 'rideability' and beautiful type. De Niro's sire, Donnerhall, held the highest dressage breeding value index (271) of all stallions. He placed second amongst 70 stallions at his performance test and went on to become DLG Champion in 1986. Donnerhall won more than 65 FEI Level and Grand Prix competitions and competed successfully until he was retired at 17 years of age.

Donnerhall’s dam's sire, Akzent II, is regarded as one of the best sires for producing 'rideability' in modern sport horse breeding, and has produced many approved stallions and expensive auction horses. Volturno, Monik’s grand sire on the dam side, was champion at his Oldenburg stallion licensing and went on to be a member of the 1976 Olympic silver medal winning German 3-day event team. He was on the German Olympic team again in 1980.  Volturno won over 20 international events, retired sound and became Europe's leading Warmblood three-day event sire.
