Waverley Bellagio (2011)// A Bay Westphalian Gelding.
About
On 22nd June, 2011 Floria, our State Premium Mare by Furst Heinrich, surprised us by giving us a lovely bay colt 6 days earlier than expected. A quality colt from superb bloodlines (Belissimo M/Furst Heinrich/Der Clou), he had long, straight legs and a strong frame. He seemed to take everything in his stride, and was very affectionate and trainable. At the 2011 Futurity at the College EC, Keysoe, after an unplanned 5 hours in transit, he managed to keep his eyes open long enough to win a very high BEF Higher First Premium of 8.82%. Despite being dog tired, and to us looking it too, he still managed to score a 9 from the vet, a 9 for his walk, a 9 for his disposition for dressage, 17.5 for canter and athleticism and an 8.5 for his trot. The judges described him as alert, diligent and amenable - and this is still an excellent description of his character. Bred for rideability from Belissimo M he is proving just as easy and rewarding to handle as he was as a foal. He is now almost 17.0 hands and is a lovely strong young horse with sufficient bone for his height. He qualified for the Regional Championships at Novice level with scores of over 70%. He was then turned away as he began to grow again and is now being brought back under saddle with a view to Winter Championship qualification.
Bellagio's sire, Belissimo M, is an exceptional sire of highly rideable horses. He is a top auction horse, record breaking stallion performance test winner, Bundeschampion, and finalist at the World Championship for young dressage horses. In recognition of his breeding significance Belissimo M has been honoured in a way that only a few top stallions have. He now is allowed to perform as a representative of his breeding region, as Belissimo NRW. His sons and daughters have been e a sensation, already over 30 licensed sons, including numerous premium stallions, e.g. in Hanover (310,000 euro top prized Bentley), Oldenburg, Westphalia, Austria – there Bellheim became the 2009 Champion Stallion. After only three years in breeding there are already 51 state premium mares, including Champion Mares in Hanover and Bavaria as well as the 2009 Champion Mare of Westphalia, Brilliante. As sire of rideability he eclipses all: 8 stallion performance test winners and 3 vice performance test winners from his first three crops are possibly a world record! In addition, 3 Bundeschampions and Blickpunkt a celebrated bronze medal winner at the World Championship for young dressage horses in Verden 2009 – 5 offspring from his first crop (2004) were nominated for the World Championship! Further winners of championships (South Germany, Switzerland, USA) and many high priced auction horses world-wide – Belissimo M resoundingly stamps his foals with equestrian qualities for the highest demands. According to FN’s estimated breeding value statistics 2009 he is ranked fifth nationwide as a dressage sire with 169 points. For 2010 he had an index of 164 with a 95% accuracy, placing him in the top 1% of all German sires.
His sire Beltain was himself successful in the dressage arena up to advanced (S) class and originates from one of the most successful mare lines of Hanover: His dam is full sister of the Celle State Stud sires Garibaldi I and II and granddam of Wolkenstein I and II as well as of the Grand Prix dressage horse Little Big Man; also the Celle State Stud sires Brentano I and II as well as Beauvalais (e.g.Vice World Champion 2002 in Jerez, Olympic bronze medal in Athens 2004) belong to them. His dam Roxa produced, when bred to Boss, three successful full siblings up to advanced (S) level in dressage : Bonnie Bianco, Baccarole and Boutique.
Bellagio's dam Floria is a gorgeous State Premium Mare. She scored an outstanding 9 in her performance test for suitability for dressage, reflecting her truly effortless, elevated movement and great power; and her gentle trainable nature. She accepts new experiences calmly and intelligently – a great qualification for bringing up foals. She is by the champion sire Furst Heinrich and out of a State Premium Mare by Der Clou. Her first foal by Diamond Hit was reserve champion and bought by a Grand Prix level German rider and her second foal by Belissimo M was sold as a stallion prospect to a top German breeder having first been placed first out of 99 foals in the foal grading.
